Egypt's Endless Winter

Here's the "new" and "democratic" Egypt for you - 15 years in prison for believing in Jesus.  There is not now and never was any kind of Arab "spring", but only an endlessly bleak winter that has deepened in the last couple years.

Just consider some things from that story - this woman had to get new identity cards issued that indicated her religion.  What would you think if you had to identify your religion on your passport or driver's license?  The conversion to Christianity was, perhaps, a matter of actual belief, but apparently it was motivated by a desire to secure an inheritance from her family.  She "converted" to Islam because she was married to a muslim - a man who has since died.

Everyone connected with this - the clerks who processed the identity cards, the woman, her children, and all the rest - have been sentenced to prison for it.

Islam as it is understood and practiced from Gulf of Sidras to the Persian Gulf and beyond is not compatible with freedom, with liberty, or with justice.  It is instead a tyrannical political ideology with which there can be no compromise.

This Islam, by the way, is increasingly that which is practiced by muslims in Europe these days, too.

Until this is faced squarely, rather than buried in the euphemisms of politically correct multi-culturalism, there will be no end to the war, whether we withdraw from Afghanistan or not.

Addressing it squarely won't be the end of the war, but it will give us an opportunity to end it. At least for a generation or so.
