President Obama is running up against the falsity of his worldview, too. He thought people hated America because of Bush, because of conservatives, because of racism and sexism and homophobia - all the reasons he hates America. In the process of trying to correct this perceived problem, he has alienated our allies while persuading our enemies of his weakness and incompetence.
Our enemies, acting on that perception, have put Obama in a position where he now needs allies - and he can't find any. He can't find any in his own party, or the GOP. Britain has said, "You're on your own, guv'ner." The rest of NATO is just looking up at the ceiling, pretending none of this is going on - including the president's part of it.
The world Obama saw, and the problems he saw and to a great extent still sees, aren't real. But they keep him from seeing the world as it is. His worldview is really based on a rather superficial analysis, a mistaken understanding of history, a totally wrong-headed understanding of human nature, and an arrogantly mistaken view of his own abilities.
I don't expect Obama to learn wisdom in this. He is too committed to the lies he has believed all his life. The country might, but I won't hold my breath. I think it will take far more pain than we have experienced to date for us to learn.
